1. Get a solid domain name.
2. Select reliable hosting. Do not cheap out.
3. Download and Install WordPress.
4. Buy a good WordPress template.
   • Responsive design is a big plus given the increase in  mobile visitor traffic.
   • Configurable to your needs.
5. Implement some key WordPress plugins and join Google Analytics.
6. Integrate visual components(pictures,video,graphics) into your design and all your pages.
7. Integrate email capture on your site and follow-up with Email marketing.
8. Use social media often to promote your posts and your brand.
9. Make a new post or page at least weekly.
10. Analyze your visitor traffic  weekly and adjust your content accordingly

1-5 are tasks you will perform once or occasionally.

6-10 are ongoing efforts to hold on to your audience and help your website grow.
